Buyer's guide

Choosing an influencer marketing platform as a small agency.

Most influencer platforms are priced and built for enterprise brands. If you're a two-to-fifteen person agency running creator campaigns for a handful of clients, you need a much shorter list of things. Here's what actually matters, and how to judge a tool against it.

The five things a small agency actually needs

  • Live post performance, pulled automatically. Views, likes, comments and shares per post, refreshed on their own. If you're still opening each post and typing numbers into a sheet, the tool has not solved your problem.
  • A client-ready report you don't rebuild. Branded, exportable, and produced from the same live data — not a deck you assemble at month end.
  • Separate views per brand. Your Nike client should never see your Adidas client's numbers. Scoped access per brand is a requirement, not a nice-to-have.
  • Seats you can add without renegotiating. Agencies grow and shrink with retainers. Per-seat enterprise pricing punishes that.
  • A price you can sign off yourself. If evaluating the tool requires a sales call and a yearly commitment, it's built for a procurement department, not for you.

What you can skip

Creator marketplaces, contract management, payment processing and gifting logistics are what push these platforms into four-figure monthly pricing. Most small agencies already handle sourcing through their own network and pay creators by invoice. Paying for a marketplace you won't use is the single biggest reason agencies overspend here.

Questions to ask on any evaluation

  • Which platforms do you pull real post metrics from, and how often do they refresh?
  • Can I give a client a login that shows only their own campaigns?
  • What happens to my data if I stop paying — can I export it?
  • Is there a monthly option, or is it annual only?
  • How long from signing up to seeing a live campaign on screen?
